Review highlights

Based on 1,383 reviews

Kanda Tempura Hachimaki is widely appreciated for its traditional approach to tempura, delivering a satisfying balance of crispy exterior and tender, flavorful fillings. Customers frequently highlight the well-prepared rice and savory miso soup as complementary elements that enhance the overall dining experience. The restaurant is praised for offering generous portions at reasonable prices, making it a popular choice for a quick and filling meal. However, the small seating area often leads to waits during peak hours, and some diners note the strong oil aroma near the counter. The welcoming atmosphere and historical significance of the eatery, known for its long-standing presence and connections to literary figures, add to its charm and appeal.

I'm usually not a big tempura eater, but this place is different - the outside super crunchy, the inside juicy and almost creamy. The rice has a very good texture and goes well with the many different kinds of tempura. The miso soup has just the right level of saltiness. The owner is super friendly, too.

Quick and filling choice for freshly fried tempura. If you want to eat here for lunch, be prepared for the queue during 11AM-13PM as the store is quite small. The food is quite cheap though. I ordered a Tendon for 900 yen and was super full. You can upsize your rice for free. The tempura set meal was only 1,000 yen as well. One thing to avoid sitting by the counter is the heavy smell of oil. If you have a choice, maybe you can ask the staff if you can sit inside.

Very good tempura at reasonable price. The fry was not too oily and the serving sizes were good. Slightly small seatings but otherwise very neat for a quick tempura meal. We had the 1500 menu of varied pieces.

I passed by Kanda Tempura Hachimaki on a Thursday around 2pm. I was seated quickly in one of the side rooms. A nice and hearty bowl of miso soup was delivered within minutes. I ordered a tendon since I didn’t want to be super full while walking around Jimbocho. The tempura was super tasty, well fried, and paired with the sauce for a filling meal. I was quite full after the shrimp, fish, squid, and vegetables. If you’re doing some book shopping in the neighborhood and hungry then this place will satisfy your appetite.

→りつ I love tempura and tendon. Hachimaki is a popular place for tempura and tendon. The restaurant preserves its traditional flavors. I was surprised by the history of the restaurant. It has been around for a long time. Many famous novelists have visited the restaurant. Their photos are displayed in the restaurant. I will visit the restaurant again.

This was my first time visiting the restaurant. As soon as you turn onto Kanda Suzuran Street from the intersection under Surugadai, you'll find the restaurant on your left. A group photo of Edogawa Ranpo visiting the restaurant when it first opened is hanging outside, and it tells the story of the restaurant's history. The interior of the restaurant has the atmosphere of a sushi restaurant. I was shown to a counter seat and immediately ordered a tempura bowl. I waited for five minutes. I was reasonably hungry, and the long-awaited tempura bowl was brought to me. Each piece of tempura was crispy and plentiful. It was just as I had imagined it would be, and just as satisfying as I had hoped. I'll definitely be returning.

This is the best tempura I've ever had!! I'm normally an eel girl, but honestly, I preferred the shrimp. They literally melted in my mouth.
